Finaly got a stubborn HP printer network issue sorted after 3 days

I was at a client's house in Oak Park last week, a small law office setup. Their HP LaserJet would drop off the network every 45 minutes and I pulled my hair out swapping drivers and cables. Turned out the router's DHCP lease time was set to 30 minutes and the printer's firmware was too old to renew it automatically. Has anyone else run into printers that just refuse to play nice with modern routers like this?

Three days for a DHCP lease issue? That seems like a lot of time for something that's basically just a setting in the router control panel.

Oh sure, @jason_kelly8, because nothing ever goes wrong with DHCP except a "setting in the router control panel." Must be nice living in a world where every home network has a clean config, zero VLANs, no managed switches with sticky MACs, and exactly one router with a factory default setup. Some of us have to chase down the one device that's holding a lease from a dead server while the main router is handing out 5 minute leases to a printer that's been off for two weeks. But hey, you keep clicking that "renew" button and I'll keep using those three days to actually fix the problem instead of pretending it's just a toggle.
