Found a repair shop in Reno with a wall of labeled dead hard drives, made me rethink my scrap bin
Was in Reno last month for a wedding and killed time at a little repair shop off Virginia St. Guy had probably 200 dead drives glued to the wall, each tagged with the failure mode and date. Bad sectors, click of death, water damage from a flooded office. Took me an hour to get through half of them. Told him I just toss mine in a bin and forget them. He said the tags were how he stopped guessing when a customer asked why a drive died. Anyone else keep old failures around like that or am I the weird one for scrapping them?
