Pro tip: Keep your repair area safe from family mishaps

If you fix computers at home, listen to this. My nephew knocked over a drink near my open computer case last month. The liquid barely missed the power supply, but it was too close. Family members often don't see the risks around loose cables and parts. I started using a simple lock on my tool chest after that. Maybe you have your own stories about similar scares? A little prevention can stop big headaches and broken gear.

My old cat Baxter once walked across a motherboard while it was on my workbench. I keep a big cardboard box lid over anything open now, it's free and works great.

A guy on a podcast was talking about how his cat unplugged his whole setup by getting tangled in the cords during a build. He ended up using one of those cheap baby gates to block the room off. It’s not just kids you have to worry about, pets are just as good at causing chaos. A locked door or a simple barrier seems like the easiest fix for keeping curious creatures away from expensive mistakes.

Sounds like overkill for most home setups.
