Two 30-pin RAM sticks kept failing, turns out the mobo wanted ECC all along
I spent three days of off hours swapping out what I thought were perfectly good 30-pin SIMMs on an old Compaq deskpro. They kept throwing parity errors every couple of boots. Finally dug through a 1992 service manual PDF I found on archive.org and it said the board expects ECC variants even though the slots look identical. Put two ECC sticks in and it ran smooth for a week straight. Has anyone else gotten burned by non-ECC 30-pin sticks on vintage gear?
