We were placing a 4,000 psi mix for a driveway in Cedar Rapids last week and the batch guy kept pushing the air up to 7 percent because the truck sat an hour in traffic. The engineer looked at the ticket, said every 1 percent of air knocks roughly 500 psi off the strength, and made them add cement right there in the yard. I've been finishing for 9 years and nobody ever put a number on it for me before. Now I'm second guessing every winter mix I've ever waved through. Anyone got a rule of thumb for how much air is too much on flatwork?
