Finally got 60fps on a 10 year old PC by turning off anti aliasing

I was getting like 20 fps in Control no matter what settings I dropped. Resolution scaling, shadows, textures, nothing helped. Then I saw a random Reddit comment saying try turning anti aliasing completely off. I did it and jumped straight to 60fps on my GTX 970. Has anyone else found one weird setting that made way bigger difference than it should have?

Gotta turn off MSAA specifically, not just any anti aliasing.

Wait, that's actually a thing? I thought any AA in the settings did the trick.
