I almost bought a $70 pro controller for my Switch, then a guy at Micro Center showed me a $3 fix
My left stick kept drifting hard in Splatoon 3, so I started pricing out replacements and even eyeballed a $70 pro pad. A repair guy at the Micro Center in Cambridge glanced at my 4 year old Joy-Con and asked if I had ever cleaned the base of the stick. I said no, because I assumed that meant opening the shell and messing with ribbon cables, which scared me. He handed me a $3 can of electrical contact cleaner and told me to lift the rubber flap under the stick and give it two short puffs. I did it in the parking lot, let it dry for about 15 minutes, and the drift was gone, felt like a new controller. Turns out 9 times out of 10 it is just dust and skin gunk sitting on the sensor, not some dead part. So what is your go-to cheap fix before you shell out for new hardware?
