The guy at GameStop in Fresno laughed at me for buying a $25 used controller, then dropped a fact about stick drift that still bugs me
So this happened about 3 weeks ago at the GameStop on Blackstone in Fresno. I was picking up a used DualSense for 25 bucks because my kid spilled juice on the one that came with our PS5, and this dude behind the counter just starts laughing. He goes, "you know that's gonna drift in 6 months right, they all do." I asked him what he meant and he told me he sees like 15 returns a month for stick drift, mostly on controllers people paid full price for, and he pulled up some repair video on his phone showing the little potentiometer thing inside. Here's the part that stuck with me though. He said the PC guys he knows just swap the module for 8 dollars and a soldering iron while console people toss a 70 dollar controller in the trash. I stood there holding my 25 dollar used controller feeling like a sucker and honestly I'm still mad about it, mostly because he was right, the left stick already clicks weird. My question for you all is, does anyone actually buy those hall effect controllers, or is that just hype too? Because he tried to sell me one for 60 bucks and I walked out.
