Warning: I spent 5 years upgrading my PC piece by piece and it was a mistake

I used to think building a gaming PC was the only way to go, you know, for the best graphics and framerates. But last month I was over at my buddy's place and he just had a PS5 plugged into his TV, no setup, no tweaking settings for an hour before playing. He popped in Spider-Man 2 and it looked amazing... and he wasn't even thinking about driver updates or 1440p vs 4K. That's when it hit me how much time I've wasted chasing a perfect rig when I could have just been playing games. I've probably spent close to $2,500 on parts over the last 5 years and my PC still crashes on some newer titles. Has anyone else realized they overcomplicated this whole gaming thing by going the PC route?

Man I feel this in my soul lol. I built my current rig during the GPU shortage and paid like double for a mid tier card just to play Elden Ring. Now it sits there and I'm mostly playing on my Switch because I can't be bothered to sit at a desk after standing in a hot kitchen all day. The driver updates and random crashes are real, I've legit had Windows update brick my audio drivers right before a raid night. $2,500 in parts sounds about right for the "I'll just upgrade one thing at a time" trap, that's like buying a new console every year but never actually getting to enjoy it.

Eh I kinda see it the other way around @sethtorres. Console gaming is fine but once you get used to 144fps and mouse aiming it's hard to go back to 30fps controller play, even for casual stuff. Yeah PCs have issues sometimes but my Switch has crashed on me too and Nintendo never fixes their online service so pick your poison. The upgrade trap is real if you're chasing the newest thing every year but most people can build a solid rig that lasts 5+ years without touching it. I'd rather deal with Windows update being annoying than pay for online subscriptions just to play games I already bought.
