Just realized my neighbor's been collecting rainwater in 55 gallon drums and the city sent him a letter about it
Two summers ago I thought the guys on this forum talking about water rights were wearing tin foil hats, but then my neighbor Dan got a certified letter from the county saying his two rain barrels violated a 1922 water claim held by a farm 40 miles away. I went to the county meeting in Grand Junction on a Tuesday night and sat through two hours of people with actual maps and legal paperwork, and nobody there was crazy, they were just homeowners who liked their gardens. Dan ended up paying $340 for a permit he didn't know existed, and now I catch myself reading the fine print on stuff like this. Has anyone else actually gone to one of these local water board meetings, and did it change how you see the whole thing?
