Realized I was grading "credible" sources off how official they looked, not who actually ran the study
I've been reading conspiracy stuff for years and always figured I was careful about sources, but about 3 weeks ago I caught myself sharing a video from a channel with 40k subs just because the guy was wearing a lab coat and had a chart. Turned out the chart was from a 2009 poultry industry report that had nothing to do with what he was claiming, and I only noticed after a guy named Dale in the comments asked for the page number and the creator never replied. I went back through my saved folder and found 6 other links I'd never actually traced past the homepage, including a PDF that was just a scan of a forum post. Now I check who funded the original doc first, every time, and it's slowed me down a lot. How do you all vet a source when the video gets taken down and you can't pull the citation?
