That $200 humidifier I bought for my NYC apartment actually made my asthma worse.
I dropped around $200 on this fancy ultrasonic humidifier off Amazon (you know, the kind with the little screen). Thought it would help with my dry winter air up here in Manhattan, but after two weeks my chest felt tight every morning. Turns out those things can blow mineral dust and bacteria into the air if you don't clean them every single day with vinegar and stuff. My doctor told me to ditch it and just put a wet towel over a radiator instead. Has anyone else had a humidifier backfire on them like this?

Whoa yeah mineral dust is the main issue not bacteria.

Yeah exactly. All those people buying fancy air filters with UV lights thinking they're killing bacteria. But the real problem is just plain old dust. I live near a construction zone and my vents get clogged with fine powder every few months. It's not alive. It doesn't need to be killed. It just needs to be filtered out or wiped down regularly.
