My crew thinks I'm wrong for managing from the office more

They say being on the ground is the only way to run a job right. I feel like I get a bigger picture from my desk with live cams and reports, so I can fix things faster. Do you find being physically present all the time really matters?

Read an article in Construction Dive last week about this exact thing. They called it hybrid site management, using tech for the big picture but still making regular walk-throughs. Your crew might just miss the face time, makes them feel heard. The data from your desk is great for speed, but nothing fixes morale like showing up with coffee sometimes.

Trust my screen said 'all clear' before a porta-potty tipped.

Sounds like your crew is telling you they feel disconnected. Tech gives you the big picture fast, but you miss the small stuff that blows up later, like a guy struggling with a tool or a bad vibe between teams. Try splitting your week, maybe three days on site walking and listening, two days at your desk using the cams to follow up. They need to see you get your boots dirty to trust the view from your office. What's your site walk schedule like now?
