That $400 laser level I thought was a waste ended up saving my hide on a ceiling grid job
I was putting up a drop ceiling in a 30x40 shop last spring and figured I could just snap chalk lines like always. After three hours of redoing lines and still having tiles off by nearly an inch, I caved and rented a rotary laser from the local rental spot for $45. That thing made the whole grid go up in one afternoon with zero mistakes, so I bought my own the next week. Has anyone else had a tool they resisted buying that later became a must have?

Saw something on a contracting forum a while back about this same thing. A guy said he spent years fighting with bubble levels on door frames until he finally tried a self leveling cross line laser. He claimed it cut his trim time in half and his miters got way tighter. Makes sense, once you see how fast and accurate those things are, it's hard to go back. I borrowed my buddy's Bosch GLL a few months ago for shelving and was kicking myself for not buying one sooner. Chalk lines have their place, but for ceilings, that laser is a game changer for sure.

Ngl, that story about the guy fighting with bubble levels on door frames hits way too close to home. I did the exact same thing for way too long before trying a laser and it's like a whole new world opens up.
