The day I figured out I was ordering concrete wrong for 5 years
I was on a slab pour last spring and the driver mentioned my mix was way too dry for the rebar spacing I had. Turns out I had been ordering a standard 4000 psi mix when I should have been asking for a 3/4 inch aggregate with a higher slump for tight spots. Has anyone else had a concrete supplier just not speak up when you're about to mess up a pour?

Oh man, that hits close to home. Same thing happened to me about three years ago on a garage slab I was pouring. I had been ordering a standard 3/4 inch aggregate mix forever without thinking about the slump at all. The driver actually pulled me aside after I complained the concrete felt soupy and told me that for a slab with that much rebar, I needed a higher water content to get it to flow around everything properly. Felt like a real fool standing there watching the first truck slump out way too stiff for the job. Now I always ask for a 5 inch slump with a smaller stone size when I know the rebar is tight. Still bugs me that none of the suppliers ever said a word about it over all those years. They just let you order whatever you want and watch you struggle.
