My deck contractor ghosted me after the deposit, then I found his license was suspended in Phoenix

I put $1,800 down on a cedar deck rebuild back in March, he stopped answering calls after the first load of lumber showed up, and when I looked up his contractor license number it said "suspended" with a complaint history from two other homeowners, so has anyone else actually gotten their money back through the state bond fund or did you end up eating the loss?
