Walked off a kitchen reno over a garbage disposal dispute

Last month I was doing a full kitchen remodel for a couple in Tacoma. Everything was fine until we got to the sink hookup and they insisted I install their $40 off-brand disposal they bought online. I tried to explain it would probably leak within a year and void their cabinet warranty, but the wife just said, "it's my house, not yours." I packed up my tools and left with about 60% of the job done. They called me three days later after a plumber quoted them $450 to fix the mess they tried on their own. Has anyone else walked away mid-project over a client's cheap part choice?
