TIL a $3 tube of caulk saved my $1,200 bathroom tile job in Boise

Grouted the whole shower on a Friday, woke up Saturday to hairline cracks running along the niche because I skipped the silicone at the corners. Pulled it all out, ran color matched caulk instead, and it has held up 14 months now, so who else learned the hard way that grout does not belong in a change of plane?

Ever wonder if the cracks come back because of house settling rather than the grout itself? Boise has that clay soil that moves a ton with the seasons, so even caulk can only stretch so far before something gives.
