Was dead set on pitching the trade pubs first, then a reporter at the Journal called me back in 20 minutes
Spent 3 weeks building a list of niche outlets while sitting on a real story about our plant closing in Akron, and the big paper ran it before the trades even opened my email. Now I think tier 1 first is the move, but maybe I just got lucky with a slow news day?

Heard a Poynter piece saying big outlets watch local news gaps, so Akron probably tipped them off.
