My neighbor in line at the pharmacy said something about Botox that made me pause
We were waiting to pick up prescriptions last Tuesday, and she mentioned she'd gotten her first round of Botox at a clinic downtown. She said, 'I mean, it's just maintenance, like getting your hair done.' But then she admitted she felt a little guilty, like it was vain. I've always thought of it as just a personal choice, but her saying that out loud made me think. Do you guys ever feel judged for getting routine work done, or is it totally normal now?

Yeah, and calling it maintenance frames aging like a problem that needs fixing. That's a pretty big shift in how we see normal life.

You said it's just a personal choice, but is it really? It's a medical procedure to change your face. We don't call getting a cast for a broken arm a personal choice. It's a fix for a problem. So what's the problem Botox is fixing? Getting your hair done washes out. This stuff changes your muscles. Calling it just maintenance feels like we're trying too hard to make it sound normal. Maybe that little guilt is your gut telling you something.
