My $80 tri suit purchase almost ruined my first sprint tri

I mean, I thought I was being smart buying a cheap tri suit off Amazon for like $80. But the chamois padding shifted during the bike leg at the Lake Placid sprint last month, and I spent the whole run trying not to chafe down there. Maybe it's just me, but has anyone else had luck with a specific brand under $150?

Used to think cheap gear was fine, but your story just convinced me otherwise.

Yeah so my buddy Mike @the_seth he bought this clearance tri suit from some random website and the zipper literally blew out halfway through the swim at his first race. He was trying to hold the thing together with one hand while trying to breathe and sight at the same time. By the time he got on the bike he was already mentally checked out and just wanted to be done. It's wild how much one bad piece of gear can totally wreck your whole race experience. I still think there are deals to be found but you gotta be super careful about what you're actually paying for.
