Just found out my crane's load chart has a hidden margin I never noticed

I was flipping through the manual for our Grove RT540E last night and spotted something wild. Turns out the load chart includes a 5% safety factor baked into the numbers, but only for certain boom angles over 60 degrees. I always thought those ratings were straight from the test data, not adjusted after the fact. Found it buried in a footnote on page 47 of the 2019 specs. How many of you actually check the fine print on your load charts, or is it just me?

Page 47 footnote, man, that's where they always hide the good stuff. I've been noticing that everywhere lately, not just in crane manuals. My laptop's warranty had a tiny paragraph about "environmental exposure" that basically voids it if you use it in direct sunlight. It's like these companies know we're not gonna read the fine print so they just sneak in these weird little margins and exceptions. Same thing with my car's towing capacity in the owner's manual, there's a line about altitude adjustments that drops the rating by like 20% if you're above 3000 feet. People think they're getting straight numbers but really there's always some hidden layer you gotta dig for.

Gotta agree with @sandra916 on this one, it's like they're daring us to find the gotcha. I found a footnote in my fridge's manual that said the ice maker "may not function as rated" if you use it with hard water. So basically they sold me an ice maker that works great with perfect water but if my tap is anything but pristine, tough luck. Same thing with my phone's water resistance rating, the fine print says it only works in fresh water and the warranty doesn't cover saltwater, which is handy if you live on a beach like I do. It's almost like they write these things hoping you'll miss them and then they can deny your claim. I swear the next time I buy something I'm bringing a magnifying glass to the store to check all those little asterisks before I pull out my wallet.
