TIL a veteran operator in Tulsa said 'a good operator never needs a spotter' and I think that's dangerous advice.
He was bragging about a 150-foot lift he did solo last month, moving a generator across a tight site. I've seen too many close calls when someone relies solely on mirrors and cameras, especially with blind spots. Do you think a spotter is always necessary, or are there times you'd go without one?

My buddy's crane clipped a power line solo.

Man that's a scary call to get! First thing, tell your buddy to stay in the cab until the power company confirms the line is dead. I've seen guys think it's safe and step out, and that ground can be live. The utility crew needs to be the ones to handle it, no exceptions. Really hope everyone is okay.
