Just realized how scribbling on junk mail boosted my prompt stash

Had zero ideas for weeks. Started writing on whatever paper was around. Old receipts, flyers, even a napkin from lunch. Would note down weird stuff. Like a customer describing a car that sounded haunted. Or the way rain beaded on a windshield. Turned those notes into writing prompts. Now I got a folder full of them. Makes starting a story way easier.

Remember finding a story prompt on the back of a chip bag about 'extreme crunch loyalty'. Tbh my best one came from a spam email asking if I was happy with my mobile service. Ngl my notes look like a raccoon wrote them, but it beats staring at a blank page. I once turned a grocery list with 'vengeful yoghurt' on it into a whole scene.

Weird notes work. Honestly that vengeful yoghurt thing is perfect, it's exactly how my brain grabs ideas too. Tbh I've got half a napkin on my desk right now that just says "what if pigeons were spies". Makes zero sense but it got me writing. Ngl the best prompts always come from the dumbest little moments. If I wait for a big idea I'll never start.

Found a note in my coat pocket last week that just said "angry stapler." No clue what past me was thinking but it's been living in my head rent free. My phone notes are full of stuff like "socks that know things" and "what if the moon was a sticker." They sound so dumb but they're like little brain seeds. My best story last year started from a note that said "library but for smells.
