Overheard a guy at a coffee shop say he can't write dialogue because everyone sounds the same

I realized the trick is to read your dialogue out loud in different voices and if two characters could swap lines without it sounding weird, that's your sign to give them more specific word choices or rhythm.

Accidentally did that with my D&D characters and now the rogue talks like a pirate.
