My 'quick' credit dispute turned into a 7 month nightmare with Experian
Last March I noticed a collection account on my report from a utility company I’d never lived with in Chicago. I figured I’d file a dispute online and it’d be gone in 30 days. Nope. They kept saying it was verified, even after I sent them a copy of my lease showing I lived in Detroit at the time. I had to mail them a hand-written letter with three different proofs, then wait another 10 weeks with no updates. Finally after 7 months of back and forth, and one call to the CFPB, it just vanished one morning with no explanation. Has anyone else had a simple error take half a year to fix like this?

Man those 7 months would've been enough time for me to grow a whole new credit report from scratch. Glad the CFPB call finally did the trick though.

Hate to be the one to say it but waiting 7 months with those mistakes on your report couldve actually helped your case more. Creditors look at how well you bounce back from errors not just fixing them immediately. Mightve looked better to have a longer paper trail showing the bureau was dragging its feet.
