That one lady at the furniture store who grilled me about my score before letting me open a card
I was at Ashley Furniture in Denver last Saturday trying to get a store card for a new couch, and the cashier literally asked me what my credit score was before she'd even touch the application. She said 'I need to know if it's over 680 or I'm not wasting my time.' It was super weird but kinda refreshing because she saved me from a hard pull I wasn't ready for. Has anyone else had a random person at a store get that nosy about their credit?

I had a similar thing at Best Buy last year. Lady straight up asked me what my score was before she'd even hand me the tablet for the app. I told her it was 720 and she got all excited, made the whole process super fast. Kind of appreciated the honesty, beats wasting time filling out forms for nothing.

@webb.victor you got lucky with that cashier knowing her stuff. Best thing you can do is just be upfront with your score before they even ask. I do the same thing now when I walk into any place that runs credit. Saves everyone time and they treat you different when it's a solid number. Had a guy at a furniture place try to run my credit for a couch and I told him it was 780, he just smiled and had me out the door in ten minutes with zero paperwork drama. People worry too much about showing their cards early, but in this game it pays to be direct.

Isn't that kind of the system working against people who might have a lower score but are still good for the money?
