Wasted $500 on a credit repair service before I realized I could do it myself

I hired this company called something like Credit Fix Pros back in March because my score was stuck at like 620 and I didnt know what to do. They charged me $150 a month for 4 months and all they did was send dispute letters to the credit bureaus. I could have done that myself in like 20 minutes with templates I found online for free. They didnt even remove the collections account that was actually mine, they just disputed random stuff. After I cancelled they tried to charge me another month and I had to fight with my bank. So yeah, $500 down the drain for something I could have learned on YouTube. Anyone else get burned by those credit repair scams?

Did you ever check if that company even had a license or were they straight up operating illegally? I almost fell for one of those services too before I found out most of them are just middlemen.

Yeah @wren_thomas16 is right, most of them are just fancy middlemen hiding behind a website.
