Hit the motherlode at a thrift store last Wednesday, then got skunked the rest of the week

I found a nearly new KitchenAid stand mixer for 40 bucks at a Goodwill in Fargo. Bright red too, the one that normally goes for 400 new. I was riding that high for two days straight. Then I went back on Friday and Saturday, nothing but broken lamps and stained sweaters. Thursday I tried three different thrift stores and came home with zero deals. It's like the universe giveth and then just slams the door in your face. Anyone else have weeks where one big score makes up for all the dry runs?

The week after I found a vintage Pyrex set for 12 bucks at a Salvation Army in Des Moines, I went seven straight days without finding a single thing worth buying. It's like the thrift gods balance the scales. I started keeping a running list of what I'm actually hunting for and it helps me stay patient when the racks are bare. What kind of stuff do you usually look for when you hit the stores?

Honestly I gotta push back on that keeping a list thing you mentioned. I tried that once and it just made me feel like I was on a boring work assignment instead of actually enjoying the hunt. Sometimes the best scores come from not knowing what you're looking for, like that time I grabbed a vintage leather jacket for 15 bucks just cause it was sitting weird on the rack. If you're laser focused on Pyrex or KitchenAids you're gonna miss the random weird stuff that ends up being your favorite find later.
