Last Tuesday was supposed to be my big coupon score day

I finally stacked a 20% off code with a free shipping offer on a site I've been watching for months. Got a new pair of hiking boots for $48 instead of $120. Then the delivery came and the box had a boot with a ripped strap and a scratch all down the side. Their customer service said I could return but they wouldn't honor the same deal because it expired. So now I'm out the boots and the discount, and the replacement pair costs full price. Has anyone else had a coupon stack blow up like this and gotten the company to make it right?

48 dollars is actually in that weird spot where it's too much for a small claims court case but too little for them to care. I had almost this same deal with a pair of trail runners from Moosejaw last year. When they wouldn't reprice my replacement, I asked to speak to a supervisor and pointed out their own FAQ said price adjustments applied to exchanges for defects. Took two calls and a screenshot but they finally matched it. Might be worth checking their policy page for the actual fine print wording.

...and honestly, that whole "read the fine print" thing works way more often than you'd think. @the_sandra I had a similar runaround with a different outdoor gear store about a jacket that went on sale two weeks after I bought it. I just kept saying "but your site says this" over and over until they got tired of hearing it. It's almost like they bank on you giving up after the first no. I ended up getting a 30 dollar gift card out of it, which was less than the difference but still something. Feels like you gotta be the squeaky wheel on purpose with these places.
