That $40 'Japanese chef's knife' from Amazon chipped on day 3 cutting a bell pepper.

I thought I was saving money compared to the $120 one at the local shop, but now I'm stuck with a dull, chipped blade that's worse than my old $15 one. Anybody else learn the hard way that cheap kitchen tools just cost you more in the long run?

I mean, is it really that big of a deal? A cheap knife chips, you sharpen it and move on. My $15 one from the grocery store has lasted years with regular honing. Maybe the issue is expecting a $40 knife to perform like a $120 one. People act like a chipped edge is the end of the world when you can fix it in five minutes with a $10 sharpening stone. Idk, feels like we get caught up in the hype sometimes.
