Appreciation post: My old Dell from 2015 still runs circles around my friend's brand new budget laptop

My buddy just dropped $400 on some new machine from Best Buy. 8 hours of battery life my butt. He got 3 hours doing basic stuff like email and YouTube. My old Dell from 9 years ago? I swapped the hard drive for a cheap SSD for $60 and it boots in 30 seconds. Still gets 5 hours on a good charge. People act like new equals better but they slap low end parts in those budget laptops and call it an upgrade. Has anyone else noticed how much slower new cheap laptops are than older mid range ones?

Wait, $400 for a Best Buy laptop and it only got 3 hours on basic stuff? That's insane. My old Dell from 2015 with a beat up battery still pushes 5 hours after I dropped in a $60 SSD. You're right though, those new cheap laptops pack in awful processors and tiny batteries with no room to upgrade. It's a total scam, pure and simple.

Oh man, that SSD swap is the move for sure! I did the same thing with my old Lenovo from 2014 and it's still kicking, though the plastic hinge cracked last month (superglue to the rescue).
