PSA: I ran my laptop on battery saver mode for 2 years by mistake

So I got this refurbished HP from Best Buy back in 2022 and never touched the power settings. Last week my buddy Marcus looked at my screen and asked why everything looked dim. Turns out battery saver mode was on the whole time, capping my brightness at 60% and killing all background tasks. I had been complaining about slow load times with Chrome tabs for months. He just clicked one button and suddenly my laptop felt twice as fast. How many of you have accidentally left some performance setting on for way too long?

Wait, isn't battery saver mode actually a good thing if you weren't plugged in all the time? I run mine on basically the same settings because I'm always paranoid about battery health, you know, keeping it between 20 and 80 percent. Plus those background tasks are usually just junk applications trying to update themselves in the tray, so killing them probably saved you some headaches with random popups and slowdowns over those two years. Honestly sounds like you had a smooth, quiet machine that just needed a few extra seconds on Chrome loads, which isn't the end of the world compared to a battery that degrades fast.
