Got told 'we don't do promotions here' at my old retail job in Omaha

I was working at a big box store for over two years, always hitting my numbers. Asked my manager about moving up to a lead spot. He just laughed and said, 'Kid, we don't do promotions here. You want more money, get a second job.' That was it, no talk about skills or anything. It felt like a door slamming shut. So, is it better to stay put and hope things change, or is a comment like that your cue to just leave?

Honestly that "we don't do promotions here" line is a huge red flag. Tbh I heard something similar at my last job and I stuck around for another year hoping it would get better, it never did. That kind of comment means they don't value you at all and never plan to. Ngl, you should start looking for a new job right now, because they just told you there's zero future for you there. Staying just means you're accepting that deal.

You're right, @reese_patel, I used to believe staying loyal paid off.
