My old boss at the print shop in Burlington told me I'd never be more than a 'copier jockey'
He said it right in front of a customer while I was fixing a jam on the big Xerox 700. That was five years ago, and I'm still stuck in a different copy center now, just like he said. Anyone else have a boss who basically wrote your future for you?

Ugh, that's so rough. I mean, saying that in front of a customer is just cruel. It's exactly what @noahhall said, they plant the seed. My last manager kept telling me I wasn't "leadership material" whenever I asked about moving up. It got to the point where I stopped trying for anything better for like a year. You have to fight to remember they don't know everything about you or your future.
