The "just be grateful you have a job" crowd is missing the whole point

Every time I vent about my dead end at Hamilton & Associates accounting, someone inevitably hits me with that line. I've been stuck doing the same data entry since 2019 with zero raises, and somehow I'm supposed to be thankful? That attitude keeps people trapped in places where they're undervalued, and it needs to stop. Has anyone else had to shut down that argument from friends or family?

@angelafisher nailed it, honestly I used to say that grateful line until I got stuck for years myself.

Have you tried asking them directly what they'd do if their pay and responsibilities stayed frozen for four years? Sometimes making them really think about it shuts down the guilt trip.
