Hit my smallest credit card payoff in 3 years and it felt weird
I paid off a $247 store card last week and honestly I didnt know what to do with myself. That card had been sitting at like 30% interest since 2020 from a stupid furniture purchase. I shoveled an extra $50 a month at it for the last 6 months and finally zeroed it out. It felt anticlimactic because the balance was small compared to my car loan which is still like $9k. Has anyone else felt kinda numb after killing a smaller debt instead of jumping for joy?

Killing a small debt feels hollow because the numbers don't scream triumph. That store card was dragging you down with 30% interest though, so getting it gone is still huge. The car loan is a bigger monster, so you probably don't feel like celebrating until that whole thing is zero. Give it a week, you'll notice the relief when you don't see that minimum payment coming out each month.

What worked for me was setting up a separate savings account just for the next debt payoff. I put a chunk of what used to go to the paid off card into that account each month. Seeing that number grow while the car loan balance shrinks gives me a double dose of motivation. It turns the hollow feeling into something more concrete for the long haul.
