Serious question about those turbo rebuild kits off Amazon

I always figured those $60 turbo rebuild kits online were junk. Figured you'd get what you paid for and it'd grenade your engine. Then my buddy ordered one for his '97 Cummins 12 valve after his started smoking bad. We put it in last weekend and honestly the thing runs better than before. No shaft play, no smoke, boost is steady at 30 psi. He saved like 400 bucks compared to a reman turbo. Has anyone else had good luck with these cheap rebuild kits or did we just get lucky?

I used to think the same way honestly. A buddy put one of those $60 kits in his LB7 Duramax like 6 months ago and it's still going strong with no issues. Kinda changed my mind on em.

Fair point @jakegarcia, but his injector balance rates probably aren't ideal even if it hasn't blown yet.
