My friend told me to always book a month in Medellin before committing to a longer stay
I ignored them and signed a 6-month lease in Laureles after a great first week, but the noise and constant rain by month two made it impossible to focus on client work. Anyone else have a city that seemed perfect at first but had a dealbreaker you only noticed later?

Totally get that. I read a blog post once about this exact thing, calling it the "honeymoon phase" of digital nomad life. The writer talked about how the first few weeks you only see the good stuff, like cheap food and nice views. Then the reality hits, like bad internet that cuts out during calls or trash pickup at 5 am right under your window. You don't notice those dealbreakers until you actually try to live and work there.

Yeah, the "great first week" trap is real. I did the same thing in Lisbon, charmed by the tiles and sunshine, only to realize my apartment was basically a hallway in a non-stop party hostel by month two. The charm wears off fast when you're trying to work and all you hear is flip-flops and shots at 3 AM.
