My attempt to build a floating shelf for my cat ended with a vet visit

I used a 2x4 and some L-brackets to make a perch in my living room, but I didn't secure it well enough into the studs. The whole thing came down with a crash, and my cat, Mr. Whiskers, got a very small splinter in his paw. The vet in Bellingham said it was the weirdest DIY injury he'd seen all month. Has anyone else had a pet-related project backfire?

Used to think any old screw in drywall was fine for light stuff. Then my dog's raised food bowl stand, the one I just tacked up, fell on his tail during dinner. Nothing broken but the yelp, man. Now I own a stud finder and the whole deal.
