Tried using a cheap rubber mallet instead of a dead blow hammer for setting posts
Was building a fence in my backyard last month and figured a $6 rubber mallet from the hardware store would do the same job as a $25 dead blow. Spent 20 minutes whacking away at a 4x4 post and barely moved it an inch, plus the handle started cracking. Swapped to a dead blow from my neighbor and the post went in on the third hit. Has anyone else found a tool substitute that seemed fine but totally backfired?

Tried using duct tape to patch an extension cord once, worst decision ever.
