Just realized my lazy approach to hoistway cleaning caused bigger issues
I always thought cleaning out elevator hoistways was just busy work, something to skip if the job was running late. Figured a little dust and debris wouldn't hurt the mechanics. That changed after a service call where grease buildup on the guide rails made the car shudder every trip. Took hours to trace and fix, all because I didn't sweep out the pit last maintenance cycle. Now I see that grime directly messes with sensor readings and part wear. I make time for a full clean every time, no matter how tight the schedule. It's a pain, but preventing those weird intermittent faults is way better. My old mindset was costing me more callbacks than it saved in time.

Ever try using a long handled brush with stiff plastic bristles? I started hitting the rails with one of those every other visit, knocks the worst grease dust off before it cakes up. Made my full cleanings way faster too.

Your elevator shaking issue is why I stopped skipping cleanings. I used to think it was just busy work, but now I know it prevents callbacks.
