My neighbor told me to never report a minor fender bender to insurance
Honestly, he said paying the $800 out of pocket for the other car's dent would keep my rates low, but now the other driver is claiming injuries. Has anyone else been burned by this advice?

It's the same bad logic that makes people skip the warranty, you're just betting nothing else will go wrong.

Your neighbor gave you really bad advice... paying out of pocket works until it doesn't. The second someone says they're hurt, you need your insurance company to step in. They have lawyers for this exact mess. My cousin did the same thing and got sued for way more than the repair cost. Always report it, that's what you pay them for.
