I thought 'mind mapping' was just a silly buzzword for creative types.
I was stuck on a project plan for a new community garden in my town and couldn't get past a basic list. A friend in Portland insisted I try a free app called SimpleMind. I drew one messy map with all my random ideas, and in about 20 minutes the connections between tasks, volunteers, and supplies became totally clear. Has anyone else had a simple tool completely change how you tackle a big, messy project?

Read a blog post that called mind mapping a "visual brainstorm.

Visual brainstorm" is a pretty good way to put it since your brain starts jumping around connecting random ideas. The whole point is you dump the messy thought clutter onto the page and then start drawing lines to see what actually matters. Works way better than just staring at a blank screen waiting for something to click.
