Pro tip: I read that concrete production makes up 8% of global CO2, saw it in a report from the UN Environment Program

I was working on a small patio job in Tacoma last month and just ordering the concrete like normal. Then I stumbled on that UN report while looking up something else. It hit me hard. I had never really thought about the carbon cost of the materials I use every day, I just focused on doing the job right. That stat made me feel like part of the problem. On one side, I need to use reliable materials to make a living and give clients a good product. On the other, knowing the environmental impact now makes me wonder if I should be pushing for alternatives or different methods, even if they cost more or are less common. Has anyone else in construction had this kind of moment and changed how they work?

Totally get that feeling. I read something similar about asphalt last year and it messed me up for a week. I started looking into recycled aggregates for base layers on driveways, even though it takes more time to source. It's not a huge change, but it feels better than doing nothing. What kind of alternatives are you looking at for the concrete work?

Fly ash mix, but it's still concrete.
