My rigid workout schedule crashed hard, now I believe in listening to my body.

I pushed through fatigue to stick to the plan, and it led to a nasty strain. That injury showed me that forcing consistency can do more harm than good.

It's smart to learn from that kind of hurt. The real trick isn't to drop consistency all together, though. A good plan should have some give in it for days when you're just not right. I learned the hard way that sticking to the exact same reps and weight every time was asking for trouble. Building in lighter days or even a full rest day is what makes the tough days possible later on.

Honestly, remember my buddy who refused to take a light day even when he was wiped? He pushed through a heavy bench day just to stick to the plan and totally messed up his shoulder. It was a solid lesson that being too rigid can knock you out way longer than a single rest day.
