PSA: My plan to completely automate my garden watering with a smart timer backfired

After the controller failed during a 95-degree week in July and killed my tomatoes, I learned to always keep a manual backup system. Has anyone else had a 'smart' device totally flop on a basic task?

Saw that report @black.jordan. My neighbor's smart lock did the same thing last month, left him stuck outside.

My friend Marcus had that exact same thing happen with his smart deadbolt back in March. He was taking out the trash at like 11pm and the lock just refused to recognize his code or his phone. He ended up having to sleep on his porch until his wife got back from her night shift at 7am. The company sent him a replacement but he still says he's never trusting it again.
