Heard a trainer tell a new owner 'the foot is the foundation' and it stuck with me

I was at a local clinic in Springfield last weekend and overheard a trainer explaining to a first-time horse owner why regular farrier work matters. She said, 'Think of the foot as the foundation of the whole house. If it's off, everything else is too.' I've been shoeing for eight years, but hearing it put that simply for a client was a good reminder. It's easy to get caught up in the technical side and forget how to explain our job's importance to people who don't know the trade. That one line made me think about how I talk to my own clients. How do you all explain what we do to someone who's totally new to horses?

Used to just talk angles, now I start with that foundation line too.

My old coach drilled that foundation line into us for two whole seasons before it clicked. It felt like extra work at first, but now I can't imagine setting up a shot without it. That shift from just angles to having a real starting point changed everything for me. How long did it take for that to feel natural in your routine?
