I mean, idk, but seeing the forge where I learned the trade now serving lattes really drives home how things have shifted.

You asked about the story and if it was a choice or the market. I read an article in our local paper about a hardware store that became a candle shop. The owner's kid said they loved the business but just couldn't compete with the big box stores anymore. Makes a good point. Sometimes the market does demand a change, and the "pivot" isn't some cool plan but the only way to keep the lights on. It can still sting, knowing the original work is gone for good. The article said the family felt sad about it but relieved the building wasn't empty, which is probably how a lot of these places feel.

The old steel mill near my dad's house got turned into a "maker space" with a juice bar. It makes me wonder, did the original blacksmith just get tired and sell the building, or did they have to pivot the whole business to stay open? Like, was it a choice or just what the market demanded? I'd be kinda bitter if it was my family's place, lol. What's the story with your old forge?

Lol, bitter about a juice bar in an old mill? Is it really that deep? Most places just change with the times, my old forge is a coffee shop now but it's not that serious.
