Visiting a medieval castle changed how I think about laying stone tile
I always rushed the base layer, but seeing those old floors still perfect made me slow down. Now I take extra time with leveling and it's paying off.

Those castles didn't even have laser levels.

Yeah the "no laser levels" thing is wild. I saw a documentary where they used giant water-filled trenches as a level reference for foundation stones. The big trick was just taking your TIME, checking and re-checking with plumb lines. They built stuff to last EXTREMELY well.

Guess they had to make sure the walls were straight before the dragons showed up.
